INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF AQUATIC BIOLOGISTS (IAAB)

IAAB, a registered body was established in 1981 for complimenting on going teaching, research, training and extension activities in the field of Aquatic Biology. With more than 600 Life Members from Universities and Colleges, Central and State Research Institutions, Corporate sector and Voluntary Organizations (NGO), the Association has developed into a forum that helps in generating, exchanging and sharing new ideas in the field of Ecology and Environment in general and Aquatic Sciences in particular. With head quarter at Hyderabad, the Association has undertaken the following activities to achieve its aims and objectives :

1. Collaboration : The Association has collaborated in the organization of National and International Seminars, Symposia, Training programmes, Workshops and Awareness campaigns in the field of Aquatic Biology.

2. Publications : As one of its major activities the Association has so far published 7 books which are reasonably priced and will be useful for work on different aspects of aquatic biology.

3. Field work facilities : The Association has developed Field work programme for UG and PG students. Facilities for this activity are made available at Field Station of IAAB in a village about 20 km from Hyderabad.

4. Field kit for Water analysis (Aqua-analyzer) : It is a compact box designed to carry reagents, chemicals and glasswares for on the spot analysis of a number of direct and titrometric parameters. The cost of box, a Sacchi disc and plastic reagent bottles is 1,500.00.

5. Reference bank : A computerized bank of references on different areas of Aquatic Biology is maintained and lists of References is supplied on payment of postal charges.

6. Reprints of papers in J.Aqua.Biol. : Xerox copy of papers published in the Journal supplied free of cost to Members on payment of postal charges.

7. Training Programme : The Association organises Training programmes on aspects of Aquatic Biodiversity at Hyderabad.

8. Zooplankton Bank : Samples of Zooplankton from five water bodies in and Hyderabad supplied on request on payment of postal charges.

Membership categories : All are welcome to join the Association in any of the following categories* :

1. Patron : Rs. 5,000.00

2. Life Member : Rs. 1,000.00

3. Ordinary / Student Member : Rs. 100.00

4. Institutional (Annual) : Rs. 500.00

5. Corporate Member : Rs. 500.00

Privileges of a Member :

1. All members have voting right and can contest for any of the executive council posts. The last two categories can nominate one person to vote on their behalf.

2. All the members will get the issue of Journal of Aquatic Biology (J.Aqua.Biol.) as membership automatically covers annual membership of the Journal.

3. A member will get preference in the matter of publication of research articles as per editorial policy of the Journal. If publishing a paper reprint charges will be at a consessional rate as per editorial policy

4. A member will get annual Newsletter - Hydrosphere and other publications of IAAB marked for free distribution.

5. Members are encouraged to write Books / Identification keys etc. and given financial support for preparing the manuscript, 10 gratis copies and authorship in the publication. They can also contribute to existing publications.

6. Members can get publications of the Association at 20 % consessional rate.

7. A member is entitled to attend the Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) and also present a paper in the seminar/ Conference organised during it.

8. A member can seek academic collaboration in organisation of seminars, symposia, training programmes etc. Please note that IAAB is not a funding agency, nevertheless, it will assist preparing proposals for funding agency and facilitate fund seeking process.

9. Corporate members will be given priority in advertisement of their products / expertise / services during AGM of the Association.

To summarize, Membership of IAAB will network you with people working in the area of your research / teaching/ interest and help development of your academic personality.
